Global energy major bp plans to open an office in Hamburg, Germany dedicated to the development of offshore wind projects and is in the process of seeking employees for the new office.

”We are pursuing our ambitions in the offshore wind sector very seriously and would like to play a pioneering role in this area,” said Matthias Bausenwein , Senior Vice President Offshore Wind at bp.
BP said that the company has already achieved a number of milestones in the field of wind energy. In cooperation with EnBW, bp is currently developing several wind farms in the Irish and Scottish Seas. Similar plans already exist for the Netherlands.
Generating electricity from wind energy is just the beginning of a whole transformation chain, bp said.
”Wind energy can be a catalyst: We use the electrons from the coastal and sea wind to produce green hydrogen, which in turn can be used for sustainable fuels,” said Bausenwein.
The energy major would also like to supply charging stations for electric vehicles with green electricity.
”This is the type of project we mean when we talk about bp’s transformation into an integrated energy company,” said Bausenwein.
The German federal government also wants to use the enormous potential of offshore wind energy, bp said.
According to the amended Renewable Energy Sources Act, wind and solar energy should account for 80 per cent of electricity generation by 2030, compared to today’s 42 per cent.
The focus here is particularly on the expansion of offshore wind energy – from ten gigawatts today to 70 gigawatts by 2045.
