The calculation method is independently verified and performed according to internationally recognised ISO standards, Huisman said.

The company collected data from its international supplier base and production facilities to quantify the environmental impact of its design and manufacturing process.

Huisman’s next step is to gain insight into the emissions produced by a product during the operational phase in order to add further value to future calculations, the firm said.

The Dutch crane manufacturer plans to include the Sustainable Impact Assessment in all quotations as of 2023.

The company is working on reducing the environmental footprint of its products by e.g. electrification, improvement in energy management systems as well as in the procurement supply chain.

In July, the firm launched in July a 700mt Travelling Quayside Crane, which is fully electric, for the load-out of offshore wind turbine components.

A few months later, Huisman introduced a semi-submersible drilling rig design, which can be powered with onshore-produced hydroelectricity but also with floating wind turbines.
