Keels Laid for China’s First Service Operation Vessels

Shanghai Electric’s two Ulstein-designed service operation vessels, the first SOVs for wind farms in China, had their keel laying ceremony at the ZPMC yard on Wednesday, 30 November.

The two vessels of the ULSTEIN SX195 and SX197 designs are scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2023 and in early 2024, respectively.

Accommodating 60 POB and 100 POB respectively, both designs will focus on optimised operational capacity, capability, and economy, Ulstein said. With batteries installed, the vessels will provide a low emission footprint when servicing the renewable energy segment.

The two vessels had their steel cutting on 15 September.

With more than 50 per cent market share, Shanghai Electric is the largest offshore wind turbine supplier in China and is also a large integrated equipment manufacturing enterprise.
