Global Port Services, owned by Global Energy Group alongside the Port of Nigg, has secured multiple contracts to support Seagreen Wind Energy Limited (SWEL) with site-enabling works for the pre-assembly construction of wind turbine components at its Port of Nigg facility.

The news comes as the final turbine foundations for the Seagreen offshore wind project arrive at Nigg to be prepared for installation 27 kilometres off the coast of Angus.

Expected to run through to summer 2023, the contracts will see Global Port Services provide project management and technical support for site-enabling works, pre-assembly setup, and other services, to support Vestas Offshore and BMS Heavy Lift.

The two abovementioned companies will carry out the onshore assembly and offshore installation for Seagreen.

The pre-assembly construction project will support more than 100 skilled jobs at the Port of Nigg.

This is the first major infrastructure and pre-assembly contract of its type to be brought to the port since the unveiling of the new purpose-built East Quay in July which offers 160,000m2 of adjacent project areas comprising laydown, storage, and assembly yards with dedicated warehousing and client project offices.

Global Port Services is simultaneously fulfilling the storage, marshalling, and logistics contracts for 114 wind turbine foundations for the Seagreen offshore wind project on the South Quay at the Port of Nigg, under a separate contract with Seaway 7.

Seagreen is Scotland’s largest and the world’s deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm. The project, owned by TotalEnergies (51 per cent) and SSE Renewables (49 per cent), will reach almost 1.6 GW once it is fully constructed since the development has further 36 wind turbines consented.
