MAN Energy Solutions (MAN ES) has secured an order to supply engines to COSCO Heavy Industries, a Chinese shipbuilder based in Qidong, China, for the construction of Cadeler’s second F-class jack-up vessel.
It is one of four orders for engines, with the other orders including two X-class and another F-class vessel.
All four vessels, scheduled for delivery from 2024 to 2026, are bound for Danish service provider Cadeler.
X-class vessels have a deck space of 5,600 square metres, a payload of more than 17,600 tonnes, and a main crane capacity of over 2,000 tonnes at 53 metres.
F-class vessels have similar specifications but will feature a hybrid design allowing each unit to convert from being a foundation installation vessel to a wind turbine generator installation unit within a short period of time.
Each vessel will feature an engine configuration based on a mixed MAN medium – and high-speed engine concept with 2 × 6L32/44CR + 2 × 9L32/44CR + 2 × 12V175D engines.
The engine combination will provide the new jack-ups with “ the greatest lifting capacity of any vessel ever seen in the field in line with the growing size of modern wind turbines.”
The engines will be equipped with the latest generation of common-rail systems and can be adapted to operate on low or neutral CO2 fuels, MAN said.
Both the X- and F-class vessels will be able to transport and install seven complete 15 MW turbine sets per load or six sets of 2XL monopile foundations, cutting down the number of transits needed for each project.
