The final jacket foundation for the Seagreen 1 offshore wind farm has arrived in Port of Nigg, from where the foundations are being installed by Seaway 7.
It took a total of 23 shipments to deliver the 114 jackets to the Port of Nigg, which was achieved through collaboration between Seaway7, SSE Renewables, COSCO, Global Energy Group, and Mammoet, the project’s EPCI contractor for the foundations and inter-array cables, Seaway 7, said via social media.
The foundations have been manufactured by Lamprell, COOEC-Fluor Heavy Industries and Jutal Offshore Oil Services. The first jacket superstructures arrived at the Port of Nigg in August, kickstarting the offshore construction campaign.
At the beginning of this month, SSE Renewables said that 75 per cent of the jacket foundations were installed at the Seagreen site offshore Scotland, with 89 jacket foundations and 74 Vestas 10 MW wind turbines in place by that time.
Seaway 7, which installed the first jacket in October last year, says its foundation and cables installation scope will be completed in 2023.
When fully built in 2023, the 1,075 MW project will be Scotland’s largest, and the world’s deepest, fixed-bottom offshore wind farm.
The Seagreen 1 offshore wind farm is owned by SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies, with SSE leading the development and construction, as well as the operation, once the wind farm is completed.
In October, SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies received a go-ahead from the Scottish Ministers to increase the combined capacity of the remaining 36 wind turbines of the Seagreen offshore wind farm, at Seagreen 1A, from 360 MW to 500 MW, which will bring the project’s total installed capacity to 1,575 MW.
