Edda Wind Expects Delays for Its Newbuild Vessels

Edda Wind has revealed that it expects delays for its newbuild Commissioning Service Vessel (CSOV) Edda Breeze and Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) Edda Brint and Edda Goelo (C416).

Edda Breeze and Edda Brint have both been delivered from the respective yards and are currently in the process of installing the gangway systems in Denmark.

Based on an evaluation of the progress and remaining work, Edda Wind said it estimates that there will be a delay in completing the installation and commissioning of the gangway systems compared to what has previously been reported.

Both vessels are now expected to commence their respective long-term charter contracts during March 2023.

Delivered in May 2022, Edda Breeze is a 88.3-metre-long vessel that can accommodate 120 people, 93 technicians, and 27 crew members.

The vessel will feature a 3D motion-compensated crane, a motion-compensated gangway with a maximum range of 28 metres, and an integrated elevator with a capacity for up to 26 persons.

The 82.9 metre-long Edda Brint , launched in 2021, has an accommodation capacity of up to 60 people, a motion-compensated gangway system, and will feature a propulsion system that allows for future installation of zero-emission hydrogen technology.

After the installation of the gangway system, the vessel will begin a 15-year contract with Vestas at the Seagreen offshore wind farm in Scotland.

Regarding Edda Goelo , the vessel is currently under construction at Astilleros Balenciaga in Spain.

Based on progress reports from the yard, Edda Wind expects a delay in delivery, and that the vessel will be ready for operations in the third quarter of 2023, the company said.

Edda Goelo will serve as a mother vessel for wind turbine technicians as they perform maintenance work on offshore wind turbines. Contrary to the other Edda Wind vessels, the ship will not be seen in the company’s usual orange and yellow – for the first time, an Edda vessel will be painted blue and white, in accordance with the Siemens Gamesa’s profile colors.
