Norway-based Rem Offshore has secured a long-term charter contract with RWE for its newbuild construction service operations vessel (CSOV) Rem Power .
Under a two-year contract, with options to extend, the 85-metre long vessel will operate on the 1.4 GW Sofia offshore wind farm in the UK.
The vessel will support the project’s construction phase, providing welfare and transfer services to personnel for asset maintenance and also operating as the construction and marine coordination hub, with the startup in the second quarter of 2024.
Rem Power will work out of the Port of Blyth which will be the base for the project’s offshore construction.
Rem Offshore ordered two CSOVs from the Fincantieri-controlled Norwegian shipbuilder Vard.
Based on Vard 4 19 design, the vessels will have a height-adjustable motion-compensated gangway with an elevator system, a height-adjustable boat landing system, and a 3D-compensated crane. The CSOVs, which will feature Kongsberg’s permanent magnet (PM) propulsion system , will have accommodation for 120 persons on board.
Rem Power is scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2023, while the second vessel will be built and delivered by Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam in 2024.

Sofia offshore wind farm is located on Dogger Bank in the central North Sea, 195 kilometres off the northeast coast of the UK.
The project will consist of 100 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW wind turbine generators scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2026.
