Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica 1, a subsidiary of PGE Baltica from the PGE Group, has scored the most points in the procedure regarding the location permit for the offshore wind farms for area 60.E.3 in the Baltic Sea off the Polish coast.

EDF Renewable Offshore Polska I, Cordeneos (owned by RWE), and POW – Polish Offshore Wind were among other applicants who also qualified for the 60.E.3 site auction.

The area covers 143 square kilometres and has a capacity of 1,185 MW. The new project planned in the area covered by the settled procedure is tentatively referred to as Baltica 1+, according to PGE Group.

This is the second lease area permit that the company has secured offshore Poland. Permits awarded for the areas now being offered by the Polish government have the chance to qualify and participate in Contract for Difference (CfD) auctions starting in 2025.

“Area 60.E.3 is directly adjacent to the Baltica 1 project, which we are already developing. This means that there are great opportunities to use the synergy effect in the development of both projects in the future”, said Wojciech Dąbrowski , President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

“In some cases, it will be possible to carry out joint procurement procedures, including research and acquisition of components necessary for the construction and operation of offshore wind farms in this part of the Baltic Sea.”

Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica 1, is already implementing the 900 MW Baltica 1 project in the Baltic Sea, which will be launched after 2030. It is one of the three projects currently developed by PGE in the Baltic Sea.

In the years 2026-2027, the Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 wind projects will be launched with a total installed capacity of around 2.5 GW. The Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 projects are implemented by the PGE Group and Ørsted.

By implementing further offshore wind farm projects, PGE Group intends to fulfill the strategic goal of achieving at least 6.5 GW of offshore generation capacity in the Baltic Sea by 2040.
