HKN turbine parts

The first wind turbine parts for the 759 MW Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) offshore wind project arrived in the Dutch Port of Eemshaven last week.

The tower sections were transported on the roll on/roll off (Ro-Ro) vessel Rotra Vente , operated by Deugro.

The vessel arrived at the port under the agency of Amasus Agency Eemshaven, Delfzijl.

Rotra Mare , Rotra Vente’s sister vessel, will also join this project in the near future by supporting the delivery of additional wind turbine components.

Both vessels were modified in 2022 at Holland Shipyards to be able to transport wind turbine components.

The tower sections are part of the Siemens Gamesa SG 11.0-200 DD offshore wind turbines. A total of 69 units will be installed at the Hollandse Kust Noord, located 18.5 kilometres off the west coast of the Netherlands near the town of Egmond aan Zee.

Buss Terminal in Eemshaven was selected as the pre-assembly and installation port for the wind turbines that will spin as part of the offshore wind farm.

The Hollande Kust Noord offshore wind project will be built and operated by the CrossWind consortium between Shell and Eneco, which won the tender in July 2020, without government subsidies.

The consortium plans to have the offshore wind farm operational in 2023, from when it will be generating at least 3.3 TWh per year.
