Sif to Produce Jacket Piles for TenneT’s BorWin5 Offshore Platform

Sif Group has announced that the company will produce 14 jacket piles for the 900 MW BorWin5 offshore converter station in the German North Sea.

The piles for the grid connection will have a maximum length of 62 metres and weigh around 4,000 tonnes together.

In 2020, Siemens and Dragados Offshore were awarded a contract by the transmission system operator TenneT to build onshore and offshore converter stations for the BorWin5 grid connection.

BorWin5, which will connect the EnBW He Dreiht offshore wind farm to the German grid, is the 15th offshore grid connection system implemented by TenneT in the German North Sea.

The three-phase current generated in the wind farm is to be converted from 66 kV to direct current of ±320 kV on the offshore converter platform BorWin epsilon and transported via an approximately 120- kilometre long submarine cable via Norderney to the mainland to Hilgenriedersiel.

From there, the electricity is to be transported via an approx. 110-kilometre long underground cable to the grid connection point Garrel/Ost, north of Cloppenburg.

The project is scheduled to be operational in 2025.
