Brigg Vind, a consortium of Vårgrønn, Å Energi, and Corio Generation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Windport AS to develop port facilities for offshore wind in Agder, Norway.
Under the MoU, the parties will collaborate on the potential development of port facilities for use in the development and construction of the first phase of the Southern North Sea II (Sørlige Nordsjø II) offshore wind area.

To accommodate the first phase of the up to 1,500 MW Southern North Sea II area, the required port capacity is estimated to be approximately 150,000-200,000 square metres.
Through the MoU, Brigg Vind aims to provide the support and competence Windport AS needs in order to initiate early-phase planning and investments with regard to innovative and competitive port infrastructure and services, the company said.

The planned port facility is one of the nearest ports to Sørlige Nordsjø II and large areas are available for expansion of the port “, said Olav Hetland , Vårgrønn CEO, Steffen Syvertsen CEO in Å Energi, and Ole Bigum Nielsen Head of Engineering & Construction at Corio, in a joint statement.
Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy plans to tender Utsira Nord and the first phase of the Southern North Sea II (Sørlige Nordsjø II) offshore wind areas by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
Norway has set a target of reaching net zero by 2050 and has committed to establishing 30 GW of offshore wind power by 2040.
