Havfram Secures Offshore Wind Turbine Transport Contract for 1.6 GW Project in Germany

RWE and Northland Power have selected Havfram Wind as the preferred supplier for the transport of wind turbines for their Nordseecluster development, a 1.6 GW offshore wind cluster comprising four offshore wind farm sites in the German sector of the North Sea.

Starting in 2026, the Norwegian company will transport and support the installation of a minimum of 104 Vestas V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbines, which the developers selected as the preferred technology earlier this year.

For the Nordseecluster, Havfram Wind will be utilising one of its newly built NG20000X jack-up vessels with a 3,250-tonne crane.

The offshore construction company and its newbuild jack-ups were recently also chosen for the installation of wind turbines at Ørsted’s Hornsea Three offshore wind farm in the UK.

For the 1.6 GW offshore wind project in Germany, all deliverables are subject to final investment decisions for each of the individual phases for the Nordseecluster, RWE and Northland Power said.

The Nordseecluster will be constructed in two phases, Nordseecluster A and Nordseecluster B, each comprising two offshore wind farms.

The two Nordseecluster A wind farms (N-3.8 and N-3.7), which have a combined capacity of 660 MW, are currently in the permit application phase. The first phase will comprise 44 Vestas 15 MW wind turbines, whose installation is expected to start in 2026 and commercial operation in early 2027.

For Nordseecluster B, RWE and Northland Power plan to secure the two sites (N-3.6 and N-3.5) by bidding and exercising the step-in rights in the German offshore wind auctions this year, as they did for the Nordseecluster A sites (N-3.8 and N-3.7) in 2021.

The two wind farms in the second phase of the project will add an additional 900 MW of capacity. Nordseecluster B offshore wind farms are expected to start commercial operation in early 2029.
