Huisman has secured a contract from Havfram Wind to deliver a 3,000mt+ Leg Encircling Crane for Havfram Wind’s second NG-20000X wind turbine installation vessel (CIMC).

The jack-up has recently been ordered CIMC Raffles.

Huisman’s contract follows an earlier order in December 2022 for an identical crane to be installed on the first vessel.

The full electric LEC will be outfitted with a unique 155-metre boom and has a lifting height of approximately 180 metres above deck, Huisman said.

The design has been finetuned according to specific turbine and foundation installation requirements defined by Havfram’s engineering team.

Håkon Johannessen , Engineering Manager of Havfram Wind AS, said: ”We are pleased to have Huisman supplying cranes for our newbuild Wind Turbine Installation Vessels. Huisman’s track record and willingness to tailor their already proven Leg Encircling Crane design to fit the requirements of Havfram and the market has been key to ensuring we have the right tool for the tasks that lie ahead.”

The Huisman LEC features preparations for the next generation of tagline systems, with improved capabilities to install the next generations of wind turbines in more challenging conditions. Furthermore, it has been optimised for the installation of bottom fixed foundations in combination with Huisman’s portfolio of Monopile Grippers and Pre-Piling Templates.

The crane features a small tail swing, offering optimal deck space. The theme of reliability and serviceability is continued in the design of the slew bearing. Huisman’s in-house designed construction in multiple segments ensures ease of inspection and maintenance, the Dutch company said.

David Roodenburg , CEO of Huisman, said: ”We are grateful that Havfram have placed their trust in us to also equip their second innovative new build vessel with a Huisman crane. They are constructing some of the world’s most energy efficient, hybrid-powered Wind Turbine Installation Vessels. We are proud that with the two crane orders, we can contribute to boosting wind energy production as well as further improving energy efficiency to reduce Havfram’s carbon footprint.”

The crane will be produced at Huisman’s production facility in Zhangzhou, China.
