Denmark-based Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S) has ordered two next-generation crew transfer vessels (CTVs) to be delivered in 2024.
The two vessels will form a new class of N-O-S-designed CTVs called the I-Class and are part of a newbuilding and conversion programme intended to meet the offshore wind industry’s high demand for future sustainability, N-O-S said.
The vessels will be capable of accommodating 32 people, the forward deck area will be 131 square metres while the aft deck area will be 40 square metres.
The I-Class will be equipped with innovative Green Technology solutions that are flexible to meet future demands, said the company.
The ships will feature the latest low-emission engine technology and are capable to operate in hybrid or fully electrical mode when performing transit and docking, according to N-O-S.
At the end of last year, the Danish company signed a five-year charter with Vestas to explore how the world’s first methanol-powered CTV can help reduce carbon emissions from its offshore service operations.
The CTV, provided and developed by N-O-S, will be powered by a dual-fuel solution, capable of being powered by methanol, but also able to fall back on marine gas oil if methanol is not available.
N-O-S operates about 45 vessels, most of which are CTVs but also include smaller tankers and other supply vessels.
