Eneco and Equinor have joined forces to participate in the upcoming 4 GW IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Beta offshore wind farm zone tenders.
The two companies said they want to contribute to the Netherlands reaching its decarbonisation targets by integrating offshore wind into the Dutch energy system while ensuring biodiversity, and co-existence with marine and above-water life.

The Netherlands aims to have 21 GW of operating offshore wind capacity by 2030, corresponding to around 75 per cent of the country’s current electricity consumption. Of this, 10.7 GW will come from the newly identified zones the government pinpointed last year .

While the focus of the current collaboration between Equinor and Eneco is on the IJmuiden Ver wind tenders, the two parties agreed to further explore opportunities to collaborate in Northwestern Europe, according to the press release.
The IJmuiden Ver Wind Farm Zone has been divided into three sites: Alpha (formerly I-II), Beta (III-IV), and Gamma (V and VI).
The Dutch Government will start two tender procedures for the permits to develop projects in this wind farm zone: sites Alpha and Beta in 2023 and site Gamma in 2025.
Approximately 6 GW of new offshore wind capacity could be installed in the IJmuiden Ver Wind Farm Zone.
Netherlands-headquartered Eneco has several projects under development in the country, including Hollandse Kust (west) VI and Hollandse Kust Noord .
When it comes to Equinor, the company has already developed a large global renewable portfolio and has the ambition to further grow this to 12 -16 GW in 2030. The firm is currently building the 3.6 GW Dogger Bank in the North Sea, which will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm once completed.
