First Moray West XXL Monopiles Arrive in Scotland

Last month, the first shipment of XXL monopiles, manufactured by the Dajin Penglai facility, for the Moray West offshore wind farm arrived in Invergordon, Scotland. The units, manufactured by Dajin Heavy Industry, are being transported by COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers under a contract signed with Moray Offshore Windfarm West in October last year.

COSCO Shipping said that it will provide two X-class type vessels in 2023 when the monopiles will be transported from China to Moray Firth in Scotland.

The developer selected the Port of Cromarty Firth (POCF) as the location for marshalling all 62 monopiles for the 882 MW offshore wind project.

The monopile foundations will be installed at the project’s site, located off the east coast of Scotland in the Moray Firth, by CAPE Holland for which the company will utilise its Vibro Lifting Technology .

The CAPE Vibro Lifting Technology is a solution that combines a vibro hammer with a certified lifting tool. This allows for the monopile to be lifted and installed vertically, without the need for additional equipment to support the pile, reducing the risk of damage to the monopile.

The offshore installation works are scheduled to begin later this year and the wind farm is planned to be fully operational in 2025.
