The monopiles for the Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind farms will weigh up to around 2,200 tonnes and have a length of up to 96 metres.
Production is due to start in 2026 at SeAH Wind’s new under-construction facility in Teesside , northeast England.
According to SeAH, steelwork will run to the end of 2027 under a contract that will secure over 750 new jobs.
“This large-scale order serves as an opportunity to prove SeAH’s offshore wind power substructure manufacturing technology and competitiveness in the global offshore wind power industry. With the production plant being built in the UK as the anchor, we aim to become the largest offshore wind power substructure manufacturer in the world,” said Seong-Hwal Son , CEO of SeAH Wind.
The Norfolk Zone comprises the Norfolk Vanguard and the Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farms.
In July 2022, Vattenfall secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) for the 1.4 GW Norfolk Boreas. A year later, the company stopped the development of the project and said that the decision was made due to ”challenging market conditions” , adding that ”financial frameworks have not adapted to reflect the current market conditions” so far.

Located more than 47 kilometres from the Norfolk coast, Norfolk Vanguard was awarded a Development Consent Order (DCO) in February 2022.
Once completed, the project will provide the equivalent electricity needs of 1.95 million UK homes per year, according to Vattenfall.
