These projects will be executed by the Spanish company Dragados Offshore in partnership with Siemens Energy.
In April, the two companies were awarded a EUR 7 billion contract from the German-Dutch transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT for three offshore grid connections in German North Sea.
When it comes to Wood, the project awarded by Dragados Offshore will be delivered by the company’s teams in the UK, India, and Spain.
The three offshore high voltage direct current (HVDC) platforms, each the size of a European football pitch, 65 metres above sea level in the German North Sea, will individually gather and convert 2GW of power generated from offshore windfarms for connection to the onshore transmission grid.
The renewable power generated will satisfy the electricity needs of around four million people in Germany, said Wood.

The German government officially increased offshore wind targets in April 2022, as well as the timeline to reach them, with plans to have 30 GW of operational offshore wind by 2030, 40 GW by 2035, and at least 70 GW by 2045.
