Cadeler’s offshore wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), Wind Peak , has been launched at Cosco Shipyard in Qidong, China.
According to the Danish company, the launching of Wind Peak is a critical milestone that marks the completion of the vessel’s hull.
The construction of the vessel was a result of two years of intricate engineering and 18 months of construction, said Cadeler.
After the launching, the jacking legs and cranes will be installed onboard alongside various technical installations. Afterward, the commissioning and testing of all systems will be initiated.
The sea trial is planned for mid-2024 and all ship systems will be tested by Cadeler in collaboration with the Classification Society.
Wind Peak is a P-class vessel that will feature a deck space of 5,600 square metres, a payload of over 17,600 tonnes, and a main crane capacity of above 2,500 tonnes at 53 metres, according to Cadeler’s website.

The vessel will be able to transport and install seven complete 15 MW turbine sets per load or five sets of 20+ MW turbines and can accommodate 130 people.
Wind Peak is scheduled to be handed over to Cadeler in the third quarter of 2024.
Cadeler, a company based in Denmark, is a specialist in the transportation and installation of offshore wind turbines and their foundations. According to its website, the company has a fleet of four WTIVs in operation with six newbuilds scheduled for delivery through 2026.
