Kaskasi RWE DHL PPA

German logistics company DHL Group has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with RWE Supply & Trading for electricity generated at the 342 MW Kaskasi offshore wind farm, located in the German North Sea.

Under the ten-year agreement, DHL will be offtaking around 104 GWh of electricity produced by Kaskasi per year, starting in 2026.

With the energy from the offshore wind farm, the company covers approximately 19 per cent of its current annual electricity demand in Germany, DHL said.

“The contract with RWE is another important step on our path towards net-zero-emission logistics by 2050. The long-term agreement with our energy partner ensures the credible green electricity supply for our operations and is a measure to support the renewable energy transition. This is an example of how fostering proactive supplier relationships can contribute to a more sustainable and positive ecosystem”, said Anna Spinelli , Chief Procurement Officer at DHL Group.

Located 35 kilometres off the coast of Helgoland in the German North Sea, the Kaskasi offshore wind farm has been operating since December 2022 and was officially inaugurated in 2023.

In addition to the PPA signed with DHL, RWE also inked an agreement with Lidl and Kaufland for the offshore wind project in April of last year.

Installation of 38 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD Flex offshore wind turbines started in the summer of 2022. By the end of November 2022, DEME’s vessel Sea Challenger installed all 38 offshore wind turbines, three of which are fitted with Siemens Gamesa’s fully recyclable blades.

Kaskasi marks the first deployment of Siemens Gamesa’s recyclable blades on a commercial project.
