PGE and Ørsted have received permits from the Pomeranian Voivodeship for the construction of the offshore part of the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland.

The permits concern the construction of wind turbines and four offshore substations. According to PGE, these are the last permits necessary to start construction.

The first permit covers the construction of four offshore substations while the second refers to the construction of 107 wind turbines and a power and telecommunications network.

The construction design and application for building permits were developed by a consortium of Ramboll and Poland-based Projmors. Currently, the companies are working on preparing a technical project.

Four 375 MW substations will be built by a consortium of Semco Maritime and PTSC Mechanical & Construction (PTSC M&C) , under a contract signed with the developers in June 2023.

Baltica Offshore Wind Farm consists of two projects, the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 and the 1 GW Baltica 3.

PGE and Ørsted have already contracted all the necessary components for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, as well as signed contracts for the installation of foundations , turbines, and cables. The partners also picked the general contractor for the onshore connection infrastructure.

The last step before construction begins will be for investors to make the final investment decision.

PGE and Ørsted plan to complete the construction of Baltica 2 by the end of 2027 and Baltica 3 by the end of the decade.

Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will create the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a total capacity of 2.5 GW. Once complete, the wind farm will provide enough renewable energy to power four million Polish households.
