The 325 MW Thornton Bank, located in the North Sea, about 30 kilometres off the Belgian coast, is Belgium’s first offshore wind farm .
The project has been fully operational since 2013 and was built in three phases.
Thornton Bank I, which comprises six Senvion 5 MW wind turbines installed on gravity-based foundations, was commissioned in 2009. Thornton Bank II features 24 Senvion 6 MW wind turbines installed on jacket foundations that were fully commissioned at the beginning of 2013. The third phase also comprises 24 Senvion 6 MW wind turbines on jacket foundations, which have been producing electricity since July 2013.
