A keel-laying ceremony has been held for Cadeler’s wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), Wind Maker , at Hanwha Ocean, formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, in South Korea.
Eneti, which merged with Cadeler last year, placed an order with Hanwha Ocean for two Gusto MSC NG16000X jack-up vessels in 2021.
Wind Maker , formerly known as Nessie , and her sister vessel will be capable of installing up to 20-megawatt turbines at depths of up to 65 metres of water.
The vessels will feature a 2,600 Ton Leg Encircling Crane from Huisman Equipment and have a main deck area of 5,400 square metres.
The expected delivery date for Wind Maker is the first quarter of 2025.

Back in December 2022, Seajacks UK, Eneti’s wholly-owned subsidiary, signed a contract with an undisclosed client for a transport and installation project scheduled to start in 2025. Cadeler’s first of two NG16000X WTIVs, Wind Maker , will perform the contract.
A year later, Seajacks UK signed a similar contract with an undisclosed client to transport and install wind turbines. With mobilisation commencing in the first quarter of 2027, the contract will be performed by one of Cadeler’s two WTIVs currently under construction in Korea.
