Equinor and Polenergia have awarded RockWave a contract for subsurface data reprocessing for the 1,560 MW Bałtyk 1 offshore wind farm in Poland.

The contract scope involves the reprocessing of sparker ultra-high resolution seismic (UHRS) data to create an optimised subsurface image.

The new data will play a “crucial role” in upgrading the engineering ground model and wind turbine foundation designs for the Bałtyk 1 wind farm, said the seismic processing specialist.

“This contract award underscores our expertise in providing advanced seismic solutions tailored to the unique needs of the renewable energy sector. By delivering superior subsurface imaging, we aim to support Equinor and Polenergia in achieving their vision of sustainable energy production while mitigating project risks ,” said Matt Swan , Co-Founder and Managing Director of RockWave.

The Bałtyk 1 offshore wind farm is situated on the border of the Polish exclusive economic zone in the vicinity of the municipal commune Łeba in the Pomorskie Province. It is located 81 kilometres from the port of Łeba, in a water depth of 25-35 metres.

The 1,560 MW offshore wind farm is one of the three projects that Polenergia and Equinor are jointly developing in the Baltic Sea, the other two being Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III.

With Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III each having a 720 MW capacity, the three offshore wind farms will have a total installed capacity of 3 GW.

Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III are expected to produce first power as early as 2027 while the commercial stage of their use is planned a year later.
