In 2021, Vestas finalised the wind turbine supply contract for Baltic Eagle with Iberdrola, one of the developers of the project.
That same year, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier signed a contract with the Danish turbine manufacturer for the transportation and installation of 50 9.5 MW wind turbines at the offshore wind farm, located in the German Baltic Sea, northeast of the Rügen island off the Pomeranian coast.
The 476 MW Baltic Eagle will be linked to the German high-voltage grid via the Ostwind 2 grid connection.
Scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2024, the project will supply approximately 475,000 households with renewable energy while reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 800,000 tonnes per year.
Baltic Eagle is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Masdar and Iberdrola.
