The first Siemens Gamesa’s SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbine has been installed at the Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm in Germany. In addition, the 253 MW project has started producing electricity for the first time and delivering it to the transmission network.
On 23 April, the first of 23 Siemens Gamesa turbines was installed at the offshore site, around 32 kilometres off the island of Norderney in northern Germany, using Cadeler’s newly upgraded jack-up vessel, Wind Osprey .
According to Ørsted, SG 11.0-200 DD is currently the largest wind turbine in the German North Sea with a nominal output of 11 MW and a rotor diameter of 200 metres.
Yesterday, on 7 May, the 253 MW Gode Wind 3, owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure , produced electricity for the first time and fed it into the national transmission grid.
The electricity generated by the project is fed into the wind farm’s offshore substation, which was installed last year, from where it is then forwarded to the converter station of the transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT.
The renewable energy is then transported to the Lower Saxony coast, to Hilgenriedersiel in East Frisia.
Regarding the turbines, the nacelles for the 11 MW units are produced in Siemens Gamesa’s Cuxhaven factory in Germany while the 97-metre-long blades are manufactured at the company’s site in Aalborg, Denmark.
The components are shipped from the pre-assembly site in Esbjerg, Denmark, to the wind farm.
In the upcoming weeks, 22 additional wind turbines will be placed on top of the monopiles and put into operation at the Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm.
In addition to Cadeler, the installation will be carried out in equal parts by Seaway7’s installation vessel Seaway Ventus .

The installation directly follows the foundation work in the adjacent 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 project, which is being built in parallel by Ørsted in the North Sea.
The installation of the 83 SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbines at the Borkum Riffgrund 3 will also begin in the coming weeks, according to Ørsted.
The Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind projects are expected to be fully commissioned in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
