The first of 31 Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbines has been installed at the Zhong Neng offshore wind farm in Taiwan.
The first turbine was installed by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Bold Tern . The ship is currently located at the offshore construction site some 13 kilometres off Changhua County, according to the latest AIS data available online.
“The installation of the first turbine has set a solid base for the ongoing turbine installation campaign. We look forward to contributing to Taiwan’s renewable energy development through the construction Zhongneng while meeting stringent localization requirements at the same time,” said Wang Shyi-chin , the chairman of the Zhong Neng project.
The 295 MW Zhong Neng offshore wind farm is being jointly developed by Taiwan-based China Steel Corporation (CSC) and Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
The offshore construction on the project started in March 2023 with the installation of pin piles for the jacket foundations.
A year later, CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) completed the installation of the jacket foundations and the accompanying pin piles.

The foundation installation work was carried out by Green Jad e , the first Taiwan-built offshore wind installation vessel.
Vestas will supply 31 of its V174-9.5 MW wind turbines to the project under a contract signed with the developers in April 2022.
Once completed by year-end, the Zhong Neng offshore wind farm will generate 1.15 billion kWh of green electricity annually and offset 550,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to CIP.
