Iberdrola has taken the final investment decision (FID) for its Windanker offshore wind farm in Germany, which has now advanced to the delivery phase.
Windanker is the third offshore wind project for Iberdrola in the German Baltic Sea. The company already operates the 350 MW Wikinger and is developing the 467 MW Baltic Eagle project.
Together, these offshore wind farms are part of Iberdrola’s Baltic Hub, scheduled to operate an installed capacity of over 1.1 GW by 2026.
Iberdrola says that all supply chain contracts for major components are signed for the 315 MW Windanker offshore wind farm and the manufacturing work is planned to start next month .
Located in the Baltic Sea next to the island of Rügen, the project will feature 21 Siemens Gamesa 15 MW wind turbines which will be installed by Havfram.
The Dutch company Van Oord was contracted by Iberdrola for the installation of wind turbine foundations and the supply and installation of inter-array cables. For the installation of the monopiles, Van Oord will deploy its heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen .
According to Iberdrola, the EUR 1 billion Windanker project will support more than 1,200 jobs in construction, working with 130 different suppliers located across 22 countries.
Once fully commissioned in 2026, the wind farm is expected to produce enough clean energy to meet the demands of 315,000 households per year while reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 500,000 tonnes per year.

The renewable energy that the project will produce has already been sold to industrial customers via long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), according to the developer.
Iberdrola already signed agreements with several companies, including Mercedes-Benz , TMD Friction Services , and Amazon .

In 2024 we have been constructing major projects in four countries, including two now active in Germany, with billions of euros being invested to support thousands of jobs across hundreds of suppliers in dozens of countries,” said Ignacio Galán , Executive Chairman of Iberdrola.
“Offshore wind is a key technology for our clean energy growth in the years ahead, with all capacity from these projects secured via long-term PPA contracts or supported by government mechanisms. All our construction activity across the world is progressing well, and we look forward to adding Windanker to our portfolio of operational projects by the end of 2026.”
