Skyborn, TotalEnergies and Partners Inaugurate Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm

“The Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm is not any project: It is one of Taiwan’s largest offshore wind farms and Skyborn’s first operational project in APAC. It is the proof of our ability to delivering on our commitments. I want to thank all those involved, especially our partners and shareholders as well as the Taiwanese government for their support throughout this project” , said Patrick Lammers , CEO of Skyborn Renewables.

The offshore wind farm, built in the Taiwan Strait some 8 kilometres off Yunlin County, is feeding power into the Taiwanese grid via two onshore substations near the townships of Taixi and Sihu in the county. The electricity is provided to Taiwan Power Company (TPC) under two 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) at an average rate of USD 165/MWh (around EUR 157.17/MWh).

The Yunneng Wind Power joint venture, gathering Skyborn Renewables ( 31.98 per cent), TotalEnergies (29.46 per cent), EGCO Group (26.56 per cent), and Sojitz Corporation (12 per cent), is responsible for the construction and operation of the 640 MW Yunlin project.

Following the commercial operations date (COD), which is envisaged for June 2025, TotalEnergies will take the lead in the technical operations management, while Skyborn will continue to oversee other management services, according to the joint venture.

“We are very pleased to be inaugurating the Yunlin offshore wind farm, as we take a new step forward in our offshore wind development”, said Olivier Jouny , Senior Vice President Renewables at TotalEnergies.

“This 640 MW project will help us achieve our 2025 targets for 35 GW of gross renewable capacity and over 50 TWh of net electricity production, amounting to 10% of TotalEnergies’ energy output. Our role as technical operator on Yunlin will allow us to strengthen our offshore wind competencies as we look ahead to our future projects in Germany, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.”
