The developer of the MunmuBaram floating offshore wind farm in South Korea has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ulju Fishery Committee to enhance cooperation and carry out a fishery impact survey as part of its project development.
This agreement sets out plans for MunmuBaram to assess the potential impacts on fishing activities, with mutual cooperation throughout the process. This includes identifying affected targets and levels of impact in accordance with relevant laws and coordinating necessary procedures in close consultation.
MunmuBaram said that it will continue to expand opportunities to engage local fisheries and to develop collaborative programmes that support sustainable coexistence with the local community.
In February 2024, Hexicon became the sole owner after buying Shell’s stake in the 750 MW floating offshore wind farm.
The project is set to be built in waters 120-150 metres deep, 65 kilometres off the coast of Ulsan.
MunmuBaram will have a total generation capacity of 750 MW once operational, covering an area of 160 square kilometres.
In 2024, the major project milestone includes completion of Phase 1 of the geotechnical investigation, final approval of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) , and signing the transmission service agreement (TSA) with KEPCO.
