The first of the 174 wind turbine towers for the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One has been upended at Siemens Gamesa’s pre-assembly site in Hull.

Back in September, Siemens Gamesa hired the Ayrshire-based Windhoist Limited to provide onshore pre-construction support for 174 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 wind turbines.

Windhoist expects to have the first load out of towers fully upended this weekend, leaving 20 towers to upend before the end of the year.

Ørsted is developing the Hornsea Project One some 120 kilometres offshore Yorkshire, UK. The wind farm, equally owned by Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners, is scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2020.

Ørsted is constructing the wind farm under a full-scope EPC contract and will provide long-term O&M services from its base in Grimsby, as well as a route to market for the power generated by what will be the largest wind farm in the world.
