The Port of Esbjerg has purchased a Liebherr LHM 800 crane, the world’s biggest mobile harbor crane, which will mainly be used for large offshore wind components.

The need for the crane is due to components for offshore wind turbines getting bigger and bigger, however it will also be used for other industries, the Danish port said.

The 800t Liebherr LHM 800 crane is currently heading for the Port of Esbjerg where it is expected to arrive in August.

According to the Port of Esbjerg, the new crane has a lifting capacity of 308t, is 48m tall, has a boom length of 88m and is one of only 12 of its kind worldwide.

”We are experiencing a growth in high and heavy cargo, and that makes new demands on our crane capacity,” said Dennis Jul Pedersen , CEO at the Port Esbjerg.

”The crane gives us much greater cargo handling flexibility. In addition to single lifts of over 300 tons, the new crane will allow us to carry out tandem lifts with two of our largest cranes together lifting up to 448 tonnes.”
