Vineyard Wind has revealed the plans to transform Bridgeport in Connecticut into an offshore wind hub as part of its proposed Park City Wind project.

As reported earlier, Vineyard Wind submitted the proposal to develop the up to 1.2GW offshore wind project in response to Connecticut’s recent Request for Proposals (RfP) .

The company stated it is committed to making Bridgeport the O&M home to Park City Wind for the lifetime of the project.

Additionally, Vineyard Wind plans to partner with McAllister Towing and Transportation Co. to redevelop the 18.3ha Barnum Landing waterfront industrial property, currently underutilized and undeveloped, which will host local workers for transition piece steel fabrication and final outfitting.

“Park City Wind is a tremendous opportunity to revitalize Bridgeport by creating thousands of good paying jobs with good benefits in both the wind industry and throughout the local supply chain,” said Vineyard Wind CEO Lars Thaaning Pedersen .

“We see a future with thriving ports in both New London and Bridgeport and manufacturers in every corner of the state working to literally lift this industry off the ground in the US. If Park City Wind is selected, the jobs and economic opportunities created by this project will be available in the region for decades to come.”

The company has signed a Letter of Intent to negotiate a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) with the Connecticut Building Trades Council to ensure that the existing skilled workforce has access to the training and experience needed to help build the project and participate in the industry.

Vineyard Wind concluded it had proposed funding for delivering benefits beyond the project, in partnership with the State of Connecticut, to attract permanent major offshore wind activities, such as manufacturing, port redevelopment, or steel component manufacturing, fabrication, and construction capabilities to the area.
