Renewable energy consultancy and service provider Natural Power has been appointed by EDF Renewables and ESB to act as the control point for the 450 MW Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) wind farm offshore Scotland .
Opened in 2018 , Natural Power’s ControlCentre will provide NnG with out-of-hours system monitoring as well as HV network and control point services to support the offshore development.
“ The ControlCentre team will play a crucial role in liaising with the National Grid as well as remotely monitoring the site, and we look forward to working closely with them to ensure NnG delivers 450 MW of clean energy to consumers,” said Stewart Ogg , Electrical Systems Manager at NnG Offshore Wind.
Jointly owned by EDF Renewables and ESB and under construction 15 kilometres off the coast of Fife, NnG will comprise 54 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines.
The 450 MW project entered the offshore construction phase in August 2020.
About a month ago, the developers announced that the full commissioning of NnG wind farm offshore Scotland was postponed until 2024 due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic both in Europe and in the Far East.
Despite this delay, the construction of the offshore wind farm continued with the arrival of the first turbine components, turbine blades, and a number of tower sections at the Port of Dundee in March.

Once fully operational, NnG will supply enough electricity for around 375,000 homes and offset over 400,000 tonnes of Co2 emissions each year.
