Ocean Winds has contracted China-based Dajin Heavy Industry for the supply of 48 XXL monopile foundations for the Moray West wind farm offshore Scotland that will comprise up to 85 wind turbines and two substations.

The steel cutting for the first monopile has already started, Dajin Heavy Industry said, which signed a capacity reservation agreement for the supply of monopiles in December last year, with this now being a fully binding contract.

The monopiles will weigh about 2,000 tonnes and have a diameter of 10 metres, while the steel has been secured from Chinese mills.

“ We are extremely proud that we can contribute into decarbonized and thus better world. We also do understand and support local economy benefits arising from offshore wind industry, and accordingly we will continue our efforts to maximize local content for every project we participate”, said Jin Xin , Owner and Chairmen of Dajin Heavy Industry.

The company established a European project management team to work together with Moray West and its Chinese teams.

Last month, Lamprell, which signed a capacity reservation agreement with Ocean Winds in March for the supply of 62 transition pieces, selected OES Group to equip the monopile foundations of the Moray West offshore wind farm with the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system.

The foundations of the 850 MW offshore wind farm will be protected against corrosion for 30 years, said OES Group.

Located off the northeast coast of Scotland, the Moray West offshore wind farm is expected to produce its first power in 2024.
