EDS HV Group (EDS), a subsidiary of James Fisher Renewables (JF Renewables), has been awarded a multi-million-pound contract to provide high voltage support services at the Formosa 2 wind farm offshore Taiwan.

EDS will support the management of the high voltage network and the electrical safety during the construction and commissioning phase of the project, followed by transitional support to wind farm operations.

The company will also simplify the safety aspects of the project by managing and maintaining a bespoke set of safety rules and procedures which it has developed and authored itself.

Under the agreement, JF Renewables will also deliver training to the local workforce in Taiwan.

“ We hope to build upon the experience gained during other projects in Taiwan by providing and implementing a robust and safe system of work for the management of electrical operations during construction and commissioning with final handover to the operations and maintenance phase of the project “, said Wayne Mulhall , managing director of James Fisher Renewables.

Located off the coast of Miaoli County in northwestern Taiwan, Formosa 2 offshore wind farm will comprise 47 Siemens 8 MW turbines installed in water depths of up to 55 metres.

In September, all wind turbine jacket foundations and all subsea cables were installed at the project’s construction site.

The 376 MW offshore wind farm is being developed by JERA, Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG), and Swancor Renewable Energy.

Once completed, Formosa 2 is expected to provide enough renewable electricity to supply power to approximately 380,000 households and help bring Taiwan’s Government a step closer to achieving its target of 20 per cent renewable energy by 2025 .
