Maersk Supply Service has been contracted to transport and install three 10 MW wind turbines at the Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) floating wind farm in France, developed by Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires (groupe Caisse des Dépôts).

Awarded by EPCI contractor Eiffage Métal, Maersk Supply Service’s scope of work includes the engineering, transport, delivery to the construction site, and offshore installation of the floating wind turbines, as well as the procurement and installation of the mooring systems.

The three wind turbines will be supported by Principle Power’s 3rd-gen semi-submersible WindFloat floating foundations.

The project is expected to run for a duration of 18 months, with offshore operations planned to take place in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The offshore element will involve two deep-water anchor handlers from Maersk Supply Service’s own fleet, a T-class and an M-class vessel, Maersk said.

Euroports will provide port services during the construction of the wind farm at the port of Port-La Nouvelle.

The 30 MW floating wind farm, located off the coast of Leucate-Le Barcarès in the French Mediterranean Sea, has entered the construction phase, after having signed all the contracts for financing the project.

The developers of the project reached the final investment decision for the EFGL floating offshore wind farm at the beginning of this year, which allowed them to sign contracts with the main industrial and financial partners, and launch the project’s actual implementation phase.

A few months ago, Global Maritime was awarded a contract by the project’s developers to provide Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) services across all aspects of the construction phase, including foundations, wind turbines, and inter-array and export cables.
