Port of Esbjerg has started construction on a new warehouse facility that will be used for the offshore wind industry with Siemens Gamesa being its first tenant.
The new warehouse will expand the port’s storage and assembly facilities to handle ever-growing components used in the offshore wind market.
The 6,200-square-metre hall with a height of 35 metres will be able to accommodate port-related and assembly activities.
The construction will cost a three-digit million sum, and the building is planned to be completed by the end of 2023.
In addition, Port of Esbjerg entered into a lease agreement with Siemens Gamesa who will be the facility’s first tenant.
“We’re delighted to extend our long-standing cooperation with Port Esbjerg with this lease agreement. Port Esbjerg is an important hub for offshore wind activities, and with this new facility, we’ll be even better equipped for the future” , said Torben Bang , CEO of Siemens Gamesa.
In 2020, Nordic infrastructure fund Infranode announced that it will be investing up to DKK 1 billion (about EUR 134 million) in new infrastructure facilities at the Danish port.
A year later, the Danish port was given the green light by the local council for a major expansion that involves building more than 500,000 square metres of additional area to accommodate offshore wind activities.

In December 2021, Valmont SM, a manufacturer of offshore wind turbine towers, signed an agreement with the Port of Esbjerg for an exclusive option to have the port build a large production facility for wind turbine towers.
