First power has been produced from the 589 MW Changfang & Xidao offshore wind farms in Taiwan, according to an update shared on social media by Dennis Sanou, CEO of the Changfang & Xidao Projects at Copenhagen Offshore Partners.
The offshore wind project will comprise 62 Vestas 9.5 MW wind turbines, the first of which was installed in July by the installation vessel Bold Tern .
That same month, Boskalis completed the first phase of foundation installation work on the project which included ten three-legged jacket foundations and the accompanying pin piles.
Changfang and Xidao is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), which holds the majority stake, and by two local life insurance companies, Taiwan Life Insurance, and TransGlobe Life Insurance.
Offshore construction at the project’s two sites started last year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
For this to happen the project relies on support from the Taiwanese Government to solve additional storage of five wind turbines to prevent further delays in the completion of the critical infrastructure, including the operations and maintenance (O&M) Changhua port facilities, said Sanou.
