Bureau Veritas, in partnership with the Korean Register (KR), has been appointed to lead the project certification of BadaEnergy’s Gray Whale 3 floating offshore wind farm in Ulsan, South Korea.
As an independent third party, Bureau Veritas will provide project certification services.
This covers the conformity assessment of the complete floating offshore wind farm and conformity assessments related to design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and operation, including a review of the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED).
In August, Technip Energies, in consortium with Subsea 7 and Samkang M&T, began carrying out an engineering study for the 504 MW floating offshore wind project.
The Gray Whale 3 floating wind project is being built 70 kilometres off the coast of Ulsan by a partnership between Corio Generation, a portfolio company of the Green Investment Group (GIG), and TotalEnergies.
The BadaEnergy portfolio consists of at least 2 GW of floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects located off the coast of Ulsan and South Jeolla province.
The portfolio includes the 1.5 GW Gray Whale project which is expected to become one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind developments, according to the developers.
A year ago, Corio and TotalEnergies received an electric business license (EBL) from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy’s Electricity Regulatory Commission for the project’s first phase of 504 MW.
