Seagreen offshore wind farm has entered the final phases of work after the remaining eight three-legged jacket foundations were loaded onto barges at Global Energy Group’s Port of Nigg in the Highlands of Scotland.

Global Port Services, part of Global Energy Group, fulfilled the storage, marshalling, and logistics contracts for the 114 95-metre tall jacket foundations on the South Quay at the Port of Nigg , with Seaway7 transporting the jacket on barges from the port to the construction site located 27 kilometres off the Angus coast.

The first jacket superstructures arrived at the Port of Nigg in August 2021, kickstarting the offshore construction campaign, while the final unit arrived at the port in December last year.

So far, 106 of the jacket foundations have been installed with 79 Vestas V164-10.0 MW wind turbines now erected. The remaining eight foundation jackets loaded out at Nigg will remain on barges until the semi-submersible crane vessel, Saipem 7000, returns to the Seagreen site in March following its maintenance outage.

When fully built in 2023, the 1,075 MW project will be Scotland’s largest, and the world’s deepest, fixed-bottom offshore wind farm.

The Seagreen 1 offshore wind farm is owned by SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies, with SSE leading the development and construction, as well as the operation, once the wind farm is completed.

In October 2022, SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies received a go-ahead from the Scottish Ministers to increase the combined capacity of the remaining 36 wind turbines of the Seagreen offshore wind farm, at Seagreen 1A, from 360 MW to 500 MW, which will bring the project’s total installed capacity to 1,575 MW.
