EEW Special Pipe Constructions (EEW SPC) has produced its heaviest monopile to date which is part of the order for the 800 MW Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind farm in the USA.
The German monopile manufacturer broke its own record, which was set in July 2022, when the company produced a 1,421-tonne monopile destined for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm.

The latest and heaviest monopile in the EEW SPC’s history was manufactured at the Rostock site in Germany at the end of January and the unit weighs 1,895 tonnes .
The monopile is part of the order for the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind project, which will be the first commercial-offshore wind farm in the USA.
In total, EEW SPC will process over 98,000 tonnes of steel into monopiles by the summer of 2023. The monopiles will each have a diameter of 9.6 metres with a maximum length of 85 metres.
The Vineyard Wind 1, a 50-50 joint venture between Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) funds CI II and CI III, is currently under construction off the coast of Massachusetts.
The project, is located 15 miles (24 kilometres) off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard and will feature 62 Haliade-X 13 MW turbines, which will generate enough electricity for more than 400,000 homes and businesses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The wind farm is planned to start producing power this year.
