Apollo Kicks Off Offshore Construction at Zhong Neng Wind Farm in Taiwan

CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) has started installing pin piles at the Zhong Neng wind farm off Taiwan, marking the start of the offshore construction on the project.

DEME’s Apollo loaded the first set of pin piles, produced locally by CTCI-Machinery, earlier this week.

CDWE is in charge of transporting and installing the 31 jacket foundations and the accompanying pin piles at the Zhong Neng wind farm.

”Working in close cooperation with the contractors and local supply chain partners, Zhong Neng is very pleased to reach this important milestone as the offshore construction phase gets underway,” Joris Hol CEO, Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Farm at Copenhagen Offshore Partners, said.

CDWE is expected to install all of the 93 pin piles and the 31 jacket foundations this year, according to Hol.

The 298 MW Zhong Neng offshore wind farm is a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and China Steel Corporation (CSC).

The jacket foundations will be supplied by CSC’s subsidiary, Sing Da Marine Structures, and Vestas will provide 31 of its 174-9.6 MW turbines for the project.

CDWE has also been selected for the transportation and installation of the wind turbines at the project.

Located some 13 kilometres off Changhua County on the west coast of Taiwan, Zhong Neng is expected to begin commercial operation in 2024.
