Iberdrola Orders East Anglia Three Transition Pieces at Windar Renovables

Iberdrola has signed an agreement with Windar Renovables for the construction of 95 transition pieces for the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in UK waters.

This is the largest order of this type of foundation to date for Windar Renovables and the production will be carried out mainly at the Asturian company’s facilities located in Avilés, in addition to the collaboration of a large number of Spanish suppliers in the manufacture of the secondary structure, which will be integrated in the Port of Avilés, prior to its shipment to the United Kingdom.

The manufacture of the 95 pieces will require more than 2,000,000 working hours during 23 months, creating 400 jobs, the company said.

The production of the TPs will start next June and each of these pieces will have maximum dimensions of 20 metres in height, 8 metres in diameter, and 300 tons in weight.

Windar Renovables is also involved in the manufacture of this type of product for other large Iberdrola offshore wind farms, such as Baltic Eagle in German waters, and Vineyard Wind I off the coast of Massachusetts, USA.

Orlando Alonso , Windar Renovables Executive President, said: “The contract represents a significant step forward for our group in the offshore wind energy market that consolidates us as a world reference in the services performance from which Iberdrola will be the first beneficiary.”

East Anglia Three, which will be located off the Norfolk coast and will have a capacity of 1,400 MW, enough to supply 1.3 million homes with clean energy once it is commissioned in 2026.

The wind farm is part of ScottishPower Renewables’ GBP 6.5 billion (around EUR 7.4 billion) East Anglia Hub project which also includes two other offshore wind farms: the 800 MW East Anglia One North and the 900 MW East Anglia Two.
